Serve

Serving at liberti is not a calling for just a few; it's our modus operandi.   As we often say here, we are a church where the bench is not deep; we need everyone's help for our services and ministries to function well.  Whether you've been at liberti one week or 5 years, taking the step to get involved will connect you to our community in a meaningful way as you invest in others, and with others, to build up the body of Christ.  We believe that each person is uniquely designed to serve, and we desire for you to discover the gifts God has given you, and use them to build up His kingdom in Philadelphia.

Below are listed the opportunities for service available at liberti.  If you are interested in participating in any of these ministries, please fill out the volunteer form at the bottom of the page.

Music— We welcome new musicians to join with our worship team in leading worship during our service.  If you are interested in this ministry, please indicate your musical abilities and experience on the volunteer form.

Offering Team— Counts and deposits the offering after each Sunday service.  You  must be an in-covenant member to help with this team.

Greeting Team— Arrive 1 hour before the service to set up the connection table, prepare coffee, set out Bibles and visitor cards, then hand out worship folders and greet people as they arrive for Sunday services.   Stands at the connection table after the service to provide information about liberti’s ministries.  Also helps with other hospitality events and newcomers coffee.

All volunteer positions involve a commitment of about once a month, unless otherwise noted.  Schedules are made on a rotating basis.

Service Opportunities in the Community

Homeless Ministry— liberti serves a meal to the homeless at Logan Circle every other Friday night.  Teams are assembled to cook the meal, and many volunteers are needed to help serve the meal and talk with the men and women as it is served.

Francisville Park Outreach—get to know our neighbors by hanging out with local kids in the park on Saturdays.  2-3 hours each week; pending weather.

Calcutta House—build relationships with our neighbors at the Calcutta House, a housing and support center for people living with HIV and AIDS.

Community Garden—help build relationships with our neighbors and beautify the grounds at the Berean Institute through a new community garden beginning spring 2011.

Leadership Opportunities at liberti

Hospitality Team— Helps to plan events, including church picnics, coffee times, and food for retreats.  This team meets once a month to plan and pray, and works to execute events as they occur.

Care Team— The care team is the mercy arm of our church that walks alongside people in the liberti community dealing with practical needs in their lives.  The people who serve on the care team go through an extensive training to prepare them for this ministry.  There is a one year commitment to serve on the team after going through training.

Home Meeting Leaders— Facilitate weekly Home Meetings and shepherd the group of people within their meeting.  These leaders attend the fall leadership retreat and several other training days throughout the year, and meet regularly with an elder who oversees their Home Meeting.  Apprentice Home Meeting Leaders spend time working under current leaders to understand how to lead well before splitting off to a new group.

Worship Leaders & Levites— These people lead our Sunday morning worship service in music, and by guiding us through the liturgy of our service.

Deacons— This group of men and women is committed to serving the liberti community through inward facing (for the church community) and outward facing (for our neighbors outside of the church) ministries.  Deacons are nominated by others in the church, and go through a training and discipleship process.
