What We Believe

The Gospel changes everything

The Gospel: Jesus Christ lived the life we should have lived and died the death we deserve to die. His resurrection from the dead is the central fact of both human history and personal meaning in life. By trusting in him and letting go of our self-saving strategies we find life, meaning, joy and purpose. We are a people who are finding freedom and life as we are learning to trust Jesus, let go of our unbelief and fear, and find joy in the mission that he calls us to.

Our church is a confessional church: we affirm a summary of Christian doctrine that our leadership affirms as the best summary of Scriptural truth.  This is the Westminster Confession of Faith.  Distinctives of this document include:

  • The Atonement of Christ: Jesus Christ lived the life we should have lived and died the death we deserve to die. His sacrifice is the only merit by which God declares sinners to be righteous in his sight.
  • Inerrancy of Scripture: The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are inerrant in all it proclaims and is the only authority for faith and practice.
  • Total Depravity: All people are not as bad as they could be, but every aspect of our personhood is sinful— our intellect, emotions, and will.
  • Bodily Resurrection: God will bring all of history to a goal, an end, which will include a final judgment, resurrection of the body, and the new heavens and the new earth.
  • The Primacy of God's Role in Salvation: God is the one who calls, regenerates, convicts, justifies, sanctifies and glorifies.  We contribute nothing to our salvation except our sin.
