Core Value: Worship

Worship

The word "worship" is derived from an Old English word meaning "worth-ship."

There are many things in life that we call valuable—relationships, jobs, romantic love, status, personal fulfillment, creative prowess, health—and that lend life meaning.  The multitude of means through which we call these things valuable is the practice of worship.  Worship is the process by which we say about something, "this matters."

As Christians, we are commanded to give our hearts' greatest worship and affection toward God as he is fully expressed in his Son, Jesus Christ.  The ultimate beauty of Jesus' sacrifice—his living the life we should have lived and dying the death we should have died—for us deserves the unabashed and whole expression of our lives lived in joyful response.  God's Word tells us to engage our lives in the task of worshipping God well; of declaring his "worth-ship."

At liberti, the most obvious and literal expression of worship is our corporate worship gathering on Sunday morning.  While this may be the hub out of which our collective worship flows, we strive to be those who worship and glorify God in all of our living.  As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians: "so, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
